CBD Wellness Benefits for South Florida Seniors

According to US Census data, more than 100,000 retirees moved to South Florida in 2018. But why?

It’s no secret South Florida is one of the premier retirement destinations in the United States. With an average of over 200 days of sunshine, endless outdoor activities, world class beaches, a robust state healthcare system, and no state income tax, Americans from California to Wisconsin are choosing South Florida to live out their well earned retirement days.

From the retirement communities of Atira Park of St. Josephs in Jupiter, to The Club at Boyton Beach, to Miami’s historic Bay Oaks Retirement Residence, South Florida offers some of the largest, and highest quality retirement communities in America.

But with all the summer hiking, fishing, water sports, golfing, and beach days, the warm weather can take its toll on the body. That is why we suggest South Florida seniors explore and incorporate CBD into their daily active lives. CBD is a safe and legal natural alternative to many synthetic and non-natural wellness products. We suggest consulting with your physician first, before taking any CBD products, to ensure CBD is the fight fit right for you.

Here are 2 CBD wellness benefits for South Florida Seniors:

CBD for sleep

Nighttime Relief

Many older adults often get less sleep than they need. Older people often sleep less deeply and wake up more often throughout the night, which may be why they may nap more often during the daytime. Nighttime sleep schedules may change with age too. Many older adults tend to get sleepier earlier in the evening and awaken earlier in the morning. Older adults may produce and secrete less melatonin, the hormone that promotes sleep. This is where CBD products can aid in your quest for nighttime relief.
One of the most widely talked about benefits of using CBD Oil, is its benefit of helping people get a good night’s sleep. An estimated 25 percent of Americans experience insomnia each year, with about 75 percent of these people recovering without developing continuing chronic insomnia or poor sleeping patterns. This is according to researchers at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania who performed a study in 2018.

According to the American Sleep Association (ASA), researchers have discovered that the endocannabinoid system plays a primary role in regulating specific bodily functions. One of those functions being sleep. The endocannabinoid system contains a network of cannabinoid receptors in the central nervous system and brain. Two of the main receptors are CB1 and CB2. Cannabinoids then attach to these receptors, and have differing effects. Some researchers signal that the cannabinoid CBD may interact with these receptors, affecting the sleep cycle. With that, comes relief with pain, stress, and anxiety, all issues which impact a person’s sleeping pattern. So after a long day of activities, try CBD to help get you a good night’s rest.

Pain Management

Many seniors with pain issues are seeking alternatives to prescribed drugs, especially opioids. This where CBD can help be a safe and natural alternative. CBD interacts with neurological receptors in the spinal cord that suppress chronic inflammatory pain. CBD may also bolster the effects of AEA, an endogenous cannabinoid that reduces pain.

Many studies have been done on the wellness effects of CBD on pain management, such as one study performed in 2018 in Uruguay on adults ages 55-75 who were undergoing a kidney transplant. The study found that CBD dosages helped reduce nausea and pain.

Does Medicare Cover CBD

At the present time of this article (4/2021) Medicare doesn’t not cover the cost of CBD Oil. This is simply due to the CBD not being Federally Legal.

At CAEXS CBD (based in Jupiter Florida) we are hopeful in the near future Medicare will start to cover product with CBD Oil.

Does CBD Help With Memory?

One of the more common concerns with cannabis consumption is that is can cause memory failure from getting “too high”. This has been debunked with many using CBD.

In Fact, a study from the University College London has shown that taking CBD oil consistently increases cerebral blood flow to key parts of the brain, including the hippocampus. Creating a healthier blood flow through the brain can help increase memory and overall brain function.

Is There An Age Limit For CBD?

While there is no maximum age limit to consume CBD oil, Cannabis retailers are requiring you to be 18 years or older to purchase.

With that said many parents have started dosing children under the age of 18 with CBD Oil to help control Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and for overall health.

Many Seniors are finding CBD oil including topicals and roll-ons extremely beneficial for mobility, Joint and muscle pain, as well as mental functional use.
